Die interaktive Installation »ce.real« ermöglicht einen neuen Zugang zu Statistiken über ein experimentelles Interface. Getreidekörner repräsentieren Werte zur weltweiten Getreideproduktion. Ausgangspunkt sind zwei Glasröhren, die per Hand mit Getreide befüllt werden. Der Benutzer kommt mit den »realen Pixeln« direkt in Berührung.
In Abhängigkeit von der Getreidemenge wird das zugehörige Land ermittelt und angezeigt. Hierdurch wird die klassische Abfrage von Statistiken umgekehrt: Ausgangspunkt ist der Zahlenwert an sich und nicht die übergeordnete Größe, wie beispielsweise das Land. Die zweite Röhre ermöglicht den Vergleich zweier Länder. Eine Röhre wird als Konstante befüllt, mit Hilfe der zweiten werden weitere Länder abgefragt.
Durch Drehen eines Glases können zusätzliche statistische Werte eines Landes, wie beispielsweise dessen Stromverbrauch, abgefragt werden. Diese werden in Form von Piktogrammen auf das Getreide projiziert. Der Füllstand der Piktogramme entspricht der Höhe des Wertes. Ändert man nun die Getreidemenge und somit das Land, werden eventuelle Zusammenhänge sichtbar: Steigt mit der Getreideproduktion auch der Stromverbrauch?

»ce.real« provides a new way to explore statistics. Grains represent values of the worldwide production of cereals. The two glass tubes can be filled with grains by hand giving the user direct contact with the »real pixels«.
Subject to the quantity of grains the corresponding country is determined and displayed. This process reverses the classical retrieval of statistics: the starting point is the actual number and not the country. The second glass tube makes it possible to compare two countries. One glass tube shows a specific country, whilst the other glass tube can be used for queries for additional countries.
By rotating a glass tube, other data of a specific country can be queried (e.g. the level of energy consumption). This other information is projected as a pictogram onto the grains. The fill level of the pictogram corresponds to the statistical value. By changing the quantity of grains and thus the country, possible correlations can be observed: Does energy consumption rise with the production of cereals?
